More than 20 boats sail to IUCN World Conservation Congress

05 October 2008 | News story

Twenty-one boats from different parts of the world sailed with the joint mission of carrying their message to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The Sailing to Barcelona boats carried one simple message: we can and must protect our oceans, seas and coasts. Each boat will be moored at Barcelona’s old harbor until 9 October, illustrating to visitors what can be done to protect the extraordinary blue world that covers more than two thirds of our planet.

Sailing to Barcelona is an action-oriented initiative, where participants will showcase their contributions to the protection of marine and coastal biodiversity. Sailing boats, research vessels and environmentally-friendly ships will be the powerful tools used to visually communicate this action.
