Where next for World Conservation Congress?

16 April 2009 | News story

The Republic of Korea and Mexico, which are both applying to host the next IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2012, were sent the official Statement of Requirements on April 15.

The successful candidate will follow in the footsteps of Barcelona, which hosted the World Conservation Congress in October 2008.

Both candidates must submit their proposals by 30 June. The official site inspections will take place between 17 August and 18 September.

The decision on the Host Country and date for the 2012 Congress will be taken by the IUCN Council in November 2009.

Information on the outcomes of the 2008 World Conservation Congress that was held in Barcelona from 5 to 14 October 2008 can be found under www.iucn.org/congress.
